Now not many people know this, but your basic screw-cap is an American idea, replaced the old trusty British bayonet, which worked absolutely fine, but never really had the business backing it should have had, same old story really, we have the best ideas but fail to make the most of them, but some cheap import floods the market and hey presto, another cottage industry gone.
Which reminds me, anyone have an interesting Betamax videos?

I prefer the bayonet fit meself, it's gives a sense of very real achievement after you finally manage to get one of the f---ers in when you've got a 10 foot ceiling and it's f---ing dark (recent bad experience, please ignore sudden burst of anger.)

Oh now you mention it, I've been there... Also sticking a finger into a live light-socket is not a great idea

so anyway, I woke up this morning and went through to the lounge and only one of the two lamps came on, after fiddling with the dimmer switch (which had fixed the problem before) to no avail, I had to climb on a chair (girlfriend's place has high ceilings) and twist the bulb in again. Bingo! Now it works perfectly!
