More of More

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

I noticed this promo cassette just recently:

https://www.discogs.com/The-Sisters-Of- ... e/11215221

A DJ edit of More that is 4 seconds shorter than the 7" version is news to me.

And this is where it was issued:

https://www.discogs.com/The-Sisters-Of- ... e/12988235
https://www.discogs.com/The-Sisters-Of- ... e/10480079

Until now I wasn't aware of this 'Edit' and can only wonder about which 4 seconds were deemed extraneous.

As prices on discogs are quite steep for the 7" Picture Sleeve version I shan't be acquiring this personally but do hope that someone here is in the know and can answer my question. Ta.

The shorter version is the WEA Europe CD version.

No matter. I, on my part, had not detected those promo 7"s before that you linked to ... ...

Perhaps some are new additions S.

I was searching the SAM and ED promo discs earlier and chanced on the 7". There are some items that I know are not listed on discogs so it can't be considered thorough yet.

It is quite comprehensive, though. I see no way to integrate each and every individual release into the SistersWiki like that.
It's just too much and I can't afford to concentrate on SistersWiki editing 24/7, either. Or cut myself into a legion ...

However @discogs, releases are often enough listed twice and so on. And their classifications are well off the mark at times.
So yes, it has to be taken with a pinch of salt. But it is a great resource, also in general .

Agreed - adding each individual release to the wiki would be impracticle. Besides, you do plenty for the community already by adding the gigs and updating their pages when new info is learned.

Just compared the EU CD to MR47CDX. They are the same - so I don't believe the DJ Edit made it to CD.

Edit to add: The CDX version was made in Germany and also features the WEA cat: 9031-72694-2 so they seem to be same discs packaged differently.

This bootleg would appear to have the More DJ edit present.

If any Heartlander has this disc please put it up in sharing. Ta.

The Under The knife bootleg was shared with me. The version of More is just a poor rip from the 7" at the wrong pitch.

Update:

The longer 7" version is on this cd: https://www.discogs.com/The-Sisters-Of- ... se/2406132

While the shorter edit is the presumably better known edit found on the commercial CD's made in Germany. https://www.discogs.com/The-Sisters-Of- ... e/13822282

In comparing the edits I learned that the 12", US promo CDS and the video version are remixed. Also, the album version and 12" play at different speeds.

Go figure

Speed variances on official product are tricky.

If, for example, one was to make the baseless assumption that the CD single of More is pressed at the wrong speed and corrected it to match the LP version should one then do something to YCBTO?

Conversely, if the CD single is the correct speed (it was reased first) does that mean the whole of Vision Thing may be off too?

It has happened before - I recall a DOORS album was finally presented at the correct speed when it saw remastering.

I'm not suggestiong that any error has been made, but More is not the only SISTERS single that plays faster/slower than it's LP version.

I think you mean the Light my fire track which was for years too slow until recently. I for my part can´t stand wrong speed at recordings, it´s just not authentic.

As I have demonstrated I'm no fan of speed cock-ups either.
