RIP Sir
Only saw them once at Guilfest in 2009, along with Eureka Machines, Motorhead, Happy Mondays, Nouvelle Vague etc. They absolutely rocked, never seen a field full of people boogieing from the front row to the burger vans at the back before

i was lucky nenough to see the proper Stranglers with the full team just once before they called Hugh's bluff and let him leave. they were all uttely consumate musicians anyway and far more than just a punk band, but when they played a medley of their "thrash metal hits" it was the whirling harpsichord spookiness of "waltz in black" the hammond organ mastery of "walk on by" and the smacked-out chord progression of the various keyboarsds in "golden brown" that stole the show.
soon there won't be any heroes any more.
RIP mr greenfield. waltz in black forever.

Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"

Was sorry to see him go. They were due to go out on a farewell tour which got postponed due to COVID-19. Struggle to see how that will happen now, all due to respect to the other members, it's just JJ left from the classic line-up. I wonder if a one-off tribute to Dave show (with Jet Black in attendance) might be a more fitting way to sign-off.
