Jim Steinman dies aged 73

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Bummer, Bat Out Of Hell was certainly a rite of passage in far gone teenage years.

Everyone has a soft spot for Bat, don't they?
I heartily recommend hearing Holding Out For A Hero on the largest sound system you can, the drums are insanely good.

That's sad and sudden news ... :( :( :( ... he was in a class of his own ...
who in the world would have bothered with Bonnie Tyler, Meat Loaf, Andrew Eldritch and a few more of such rock'n roll oddballs ...
.. only a genius like him .... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: ... RIP, and many many thanks for all that crazy stuff.

He was hired to produce Def Leppard's Hysteria but they fired him after a few weeks. Instead he went to work with Doktor Avalanche who was easier to deal with than a drummer with only one arm.

From The Guardian:
"Steinman was next employed to produce Def Leppard, but the arrangement was a disaster and swiftly collapsed. He worked with goth titans the Sisters of Mercy, which turned out to be an improbable masterstroke: his grandiosity turned a band whose ambition had been hobbled by their reliance on a tinny drum machine into a genuinely epic-sounding band on 1987’s This Corrosion and Dominion/Mother Russia: “We needed something that sounded like a disco party run by the Borgias,” offered the band’s Andrew Eldritch of the former, “and that’s what we got.”"

Rest in peace. A great producer he was, and all the not-goths are grateful to him.

BOOH was the first rock album I ever bought with my own money. Will always have a soft spot in my heart.

Not exactly in honour of the man, yet as slight gesture I just listened Floodland (2006 remaster).

I assume the lyrics on this version are Steinman's originals, which :von: described as "...illegal"?
