London Camden 1983 Gigs

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

London Camden 1983 Gigs

After the Brixton Ace 1983 Gigs , https://www.myheartland.co.uk/viewtopic ... ght=london , i continue my London gigs 83 rechearch and there are the informations that i've got regarding London Camden 1983 Gigs .
To help to identify the different versions I've included short snippets of each recording, indicating where exactly it's from bits where people are talking, making noise etc which will make them easy to identify.

For London Camden Electric Ballroom 11-8-83 ,There is at least 4 or 5 differents audience recordings .
The version 1 + 2 come together on the same tape recording with a big cut in the middle of "Emma"song . http://ahp.li/0bfb4d02bbb2db91bf89.mp3
I have split the 2 because i'm not 100% sure that they come from the same recorder, even if we listen the same girl talking on both part.
The first part is available only on bad quality and the second part is available in perfect quality.

Regarding the second gig, at Camden Palace, there is just a recorded gig part know. It seems that it does not have too many people at this gig .The first gig was recorded by a minimum of 4 or 5 tapers, why they don't go to the second gig who were playing at 5mn walking trip from the first place? Why at the end of the first gig, nobody speak about the second live to come close to the place ?

The sound is muffled because the guy who copied for me put a big dolby to hide the hiss.

Here is a nice "Quiff Boy" post who remove doubts of some people which are not sure about the second gig.

[Gary] kindly gave me the address of your website myheartland. Whilst browsing this, I noted a debate amongst your correspondents, concerning two Sisters gigs from the same evening. I have an excellent recollection of these events...[it was my turn to drive the van and I was thus completely sober.] The first performance of the evening was at the Electric Ballroom, where The Sisters, who were supporting The Virgin Prunes, commenced their set at about 9pm. The second show, at The Camden Palace, did indeed take place after midnight and was thus the 12th August.

I looking around a long time about any poster, flyer , photo, press cutting or ticket and i never found anything.
Maybe somebody got something or know something about this gig?
For me, the gig wasn't long planned, like the following pic make evidence, who's a part at the end of a letter...and who is a reliably informed ... :innocent:

Thanks to a friend collector who have give this pic. :notworthy:

Also , my main interest as a Sisters fan is listening to their music from the early 80s, so I'm always on the lookout for live recordings or other items which I don't already have, or better quality versions of those I do already own. I'm always happy to trade, but if you're not into swapping or if you don't have the time to make copies of old TSOM live tapes, I'd be happy to make a digital copy from your original and send it back along with a digital copy for you too. If you have any old TSOM live audio cassettes which you no longer want or need,I'd be happy to buy them off you at a good price (or make a donation to a charity of your choice, to the Forum or to Sisterswiki etc , if you don't want to take money). There are too many old Sisters live tapes literally rotting away in garages and attics ,they don't deserve to end their days that way!

Thanks

As. I said elsewhere... you have surpassed yourself, @spiggymr7.

This is probably the most informative post I have ever read on HL. A new version of the ticket, a review I'd never seen before, the links to the live recordings, and as piece de resistance, the letter from Herr Eldritch himself.

I hope that others who have been as thrilled to see (and hear) these treasures as me will also express their admiration for the detective work that has gone into this post, as well as the time and effort to make all the links.

I think that the best way to thank @spiggymr7 - and encourage him to continue with his amazing series of posts - is to respond to his request for others to share their own "treasures" with him (and by extension, us) and help to complete a remarkable and painstakingly assembled TSOM archive.

Wonderful ... :D :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: ... it's a great pleasure to read all these reviews and the other info ... ;D ;D ;D ...

I'll surely make something of it in the SistersWiki (and also another page about the Brixton Ace recordings, btw, plus etc ...).
But not now. I'm just too busy this week inter alia with unblocking, merging and deleting vi*gra sellers from the user list*** ... ...

*** which has been done by now: http://sisterswiki.org/Special:ListUsers
The number of users has diminished considerably with 400+ blocked spammers and some 200+ viagra sellers removed ... ...

Re: Camden and the others. I was at all the gigs on that list (not van driver at all of them!)

Sisters gigs at that time usually evolved into a mad scrum, 2 or 3 songs in. Electric Ballroom was mayhem before they even came on.

Think the Sheffield one was free in. None of us hung about for Bruce Foxton.

Got out of Brixton lively after that gig and slept outside a church somewhere. Early coach home after Kingston Poly, quick brush up then drove over to Hull.

Fantastic times watching a great band at their best.

Hey Matin C, lucky you, I'd love a time machine to go see those gigs. Fancy elaborating a bit more? Bet there's a few tales to tell...

Excellent info on this subject. I have 3 of the five recordings of the early show. Don't have the late show yet.

I was at the Virgin Prunes gig. I really went to see The Sisters, but I was a reasonable VP fan as well. I recall the Sisters performance was very posturing - Von was in full strut mode, acting quite the rock star. It was the first time I'd heard the Reptile House songs live.
