Streaming the sisters

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Just noticed that on Apple Music there are two versions of 'Some Girls Wander . . .' listed in its catalogue.

I just went to stick it on there, and found that one is in Hi-Res Lossless and is an Apple Digital Master, and the other is just listed as being in lossless format.

Blaring the Hi Res lossless version from a set of HomePods and I gotta say, I've never heard it sound so good. I first heard this album when it came out in 1992. I had a couple of the earlier releases such as the Reptile House etc and some of the flood land 12 inch singles, but I was too young to have heard ALL the early work, so this was like finding a new release.

At the time, I was working in a nightclub and the day I bought it, I brought it into the club in the afternoon and put it on the main sound system when the place was empty. That was my first experience of hearing these songs, and even now when I put it on, I'm back there.

So that's it. That's my post. Part confessional, part confusional. If there's a message, it's that the music that makes us, keeps us young.

Cheers for the heads up. I once heard Body Electric in Berghain, there's definitely something special about hearing those early records in big spaces. What was the nightclub?

Doubtless there are others who can speak with considerably more authority on the matter, but I believe that the two versions come down, partly, to the two different releases of Some Girls…. There was an initial version in 1992, and then it was re-mastered later, and had some additional tracks tacked on Isuch as the Vision Thing extended mix, etc.). The latter version is a bit louder perhaps than the original release, but I seem to recall some folks also thought the mastering job was superior?

Happy to defer to those with greater knowledge or expertise.

It was the nightclub in the basement of the Central Hotel in Dublin. My sister used to promote a club night that took place there just before it got turned into RíRá. I used to go in early to set it up.

Wow pre RíRá, I think I went there once or twice back then, vaguely remember it. Seems like another life.

when we were living on the road with our 40K sound system doing illegal raves we had a sister system in town, stored in a warehouse where that branch of the crew lived. one night i had this 5 storey warehouse and this monstrous PA all to myself so i "listened to the sisters". for me that means going through every legal official release folowed by the best boots from each era, etc etc. it can be a good 48 hours before i have to think which recording to have on next. out of curiousity i had a wander to see how far it was audible . 4 city blocks. i was well impresed.
Well I was handsome and I was strong
And I knew the words to every song.
"Did my singing please you?"
"No! The words you sang were wrong!"
