Eldritch has become Billy Bragg

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Okay, I'll try to lead you through this. Read the lyrics to the song; then add the information that "Lametta and Vendetta" is from a German reality TV show. Concentrate on lines like
we beat your body to the rack
so observe
while we reach for our unravel
we get to teach you what you know
you need reminding though
... and *then* try to defend the argument that Eldritch's lyrics these days are earnest, boring "Billy Bragg" stuff without wickedness or fun.

There’s something Romantic about Gothic/Dark Wave music—a kind of lyrical, poetic style that saves it from being just simply outright depressing. These days, though, it seems that Eldritch has moved to a more Brutalist space—something more Heavy Metal and less “niche.” That’s not to say that the Romanticism of the ‘80s is entirely gone; it isn’t. It’s just off in a corner weeping. Didn’t he say that the songs would become more savage? As for politics, Eldritch was always on the Left, that’s at least according to his more recent interviews. He certainly has no sympathy for what he termed the “orange s**t show”—a reference to Trump. It’s interesting how closely he watches American media and politics. I wouldn’t have pegged him for someone who’d watch ten seconds of anything on Fox News, for example.

For me its gone from wearing a motor head t shirt symbolically and playing the early sisters catalogue, to not wearing the t shirt and just trying to sound like motorhead as often as possible; more heavy metal, if you like.
