Chatting with my sis-in-law and her mom yesterday, another "claim to fame" encounter surfaced, which had slipped my mind.

One summer many years ago, when I was taking a course at a uni here in CT, a member of the uni's men's basketball team, who was in the same course, flagged me down one afternoon after class as I was walking back to my dorm, and very amicably asked me if I'd like to shoot some hoops with him. Taken aback and very embarrassed, I politely declined, as I knew nothing of the sport (or how to play anything, for that matter), having been pulled from PE classes throughout my entire school career because of my terrible childhood asthma. Plus the whole social phobia thing, of course...

Erm...

So later, at dinner, when I related the encounter to my brother and his best pal (who were also taking summer courses on campus), they proceeded to scream at me for at least a half-hour over how insane I was to have not taken this dude up on his offer - which, apparently, had nothing whatsoever to do with actually "shooting hoops." *Cough*

Over the ensuing years, the incident has been brought up time and time again...

I was incredibly naive, to say the least. Still that way to this day... Anyway, I was admonished because, according to my bro and his friend, "He's going to be rich and famous someday!"

And he is.
