Which Firefox add-ons are ppl using?

I'm running NoScript, Adblock Plus and Cooliris - love those pretty pictures.
Haven't found anything else of much use, so will take recommendations.

(first post in a longlong time. Nice to see the world changes but Heartland doesn't!).

we. are. constant.

there's a cool ff plugin called 'pear crescent (basic)" that allows you to take screengrabs of whole web pages dead easily (right-click -> save image of whole page) :)

'download status bar' is a nice one - it puts a summary of your download window in the status bar. makes it much tidier :)

and i use a mac-only app called 1password that keeps web passwords encrypted & synched across all browsers

most of the others are web development related...

Netscape 3 was like lightening. 4 was revolutionary by seriously bloated.

I think the Internet Exploder sucks ass (big time) Image

I prefer using firefox but I also have chrome and opera installed, mainly for testing purposes. Firefox is great if you prefer to customize your own browser. If you are looking for the best possible "out-of-the-box" performance I'd probably choose Opera.

not at that level.

it's counted as a variant of safari.

if i drill down a level, into the different types of safari browsers used, it shows me this:

but you'd have to know which browsers the version numbers correspond to as they dont (sadly) contain useful strings like "mobile safari" :(

I know I'm not going to understand the answer to my question, But here I go. :P
how is that information obtained? I thought the site (internet) sends its data to your pc/mac/mobil/.. how then does your site know what browser I use. and does he need to know this?

there are certain details of your browser and computer that is available to any website you look at

your ip address, for example, can be used to work out where you are and who your isp is. this can also sometimes tell the site as much detail what town you are in. :o ;)

the "system" details such as your operating system, browser type and browser version can be used to work out what capabilities you have, in order to show you javascript or flash-enhanced (or even stripped-down) versions of the site - basically, to give you the best possible browsing experience based on what you are looking at the web using 8)

your browser also send details of what link on a page you clicked, and where that took you. tools like the one i use can piece this together to map a path of your visit to the site ;)

all websites have this info available if they want it (it's part of the standard web technologies tcp/ip and http) but need to be told to capture this info if they want to do stuff with it

in this instance, i use a free webmasters tool from google called "google analytics" which tracks site visitors... gives you access to all kinds of stuff, should you want it (which quite frankly i dont )

thx for explaining QB :)
I am not easily scared by technology but if it is that easy to obtain that kind of information I'm sure there are more than a few occasions where that could be helpful, and sure not always respectable.
in case you wonder, I'm not worried for myself, you may know what browsers I use and what pornsites I visit  but not everyone is that careful as me.

It's quite easy to set up firefox to block google analytics, especially if you have the NoScript extension installed :innocent:
