I find it interesting that Bowie wrote/recorded Hang On to Yourself in 71, including the line:
"Well the bitter comes out better on a stolen guitar"
And then a few of years later Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols (claims he) stole one of Mick Ronson's guitars and used that during most of the Pistols stuff, which was indeed very, very bitter!

Ironically enough, the correct reading of the lyrics makes it more lightly to me that was borrowing from Bowie for the additional subtext (I appreciate this might have been discussed to death elsewhere...)
