Is it just my copy or is there little to no top end on the 84 session?
The 82 & 83 are lovely and crisp, but the 84 one seems to be quite dull in comparison

'83 has got Burn labelled as Heartland, Heartland labelled as Valentine, and Valentine labelled as Burn. Jolene they got right.
I got this from Spotify support:
We’ve checked it out and see what you mean, so we’ve passed it on to the Content team for review. Hopefully they’ll have this sorted for you soon. Please be aware this could take several weeks to be reflected in the app.
Thanks Mark.

It's not just you, and I've noticed this on '84 from other sources too. The top end is actually there, it's just seriously muted by comparison and the whole thing needs some serious EQ to make it consistent with the others. Which is seriously weird if intentional.

Glad it's not just me then. Thanks for that.
& you're right. It's way down in the mix. Maybe it was just a case of them getting used to the new Doktor.

In other news, these releases are now accessible in Ireland on Spotify and Apple Music. Dunno why they weren't before but now you know.

Germany too. Maybe it was some licensing/rights issue?

Still has the start of 'No Time To Cry' missing and a tape slipping noise in 'Floorshow.' Managed to fix those but surely the original masters haven't been damaged in this way?
Edit - Thinking about this. When 6 Music were rebroadcasting the sessions, they probably wouldn't have moved the original tapes. I suspect someone was sent to make recordings of them, and didn't make a particularly good job of it, which is where the missing parts and badly loaded tape noise could have come from. I also suspect that nobody went back to the master tapes for Spotify, Amazon, etc. which is why the errors are still there. The missing top end could be down to the abilities of whoever made the recording of the 84 session. They didn't even manage to label the tracks correctly either. Reminds me of the ‘Visioin Thing’ spine. The Sisters back catalogue. Not especially well served is it?

Spotify stats pulled for the curious
Code: Select all
monthly listeners| followers
TSOM 453460 | 204686
Joy Division 3544432 | 1342596
New Order 4924914 | 1198658
The Cure 9878046 | 2589412
The Cult 1606508 | 353398
Motorhead 3683053 | 2233188
Leonard Cohen 3162687 | 1904876
Suicide 362700 | 95577
The M****** 171717 | 84508
Ghost Dance 535 | 571
I noticed that TSOM hit 1M monthly listeners on Spotify, so I pulled this data again out of interest.
Changes are since the OP in 2020.
Code: Select all
monthly active
| listeners | followers | ML inc | followers inc
TSOM | 1010352 | 489444 | 123% | 139%
Joy Division | 4281909 | 2343271 | 21% | 75%
New Order | 6290893 | 2106369 | 28% | 76%
The Cure | 18023187 | 5183994 | 82% | 100%
The Cult | 2131829 | 695557 | 33% | 97%
Motorhead | 4571800 | 3884849 | 24% | 74%
Leonard Cohen| 3492171 | 3280479 | 10% | 72%
Suicide | 225657 | 165219 | -38% | 73%
The M****** | 171354 | 162615 | 0% | 92%
Ghost Dance | 4754 | 4318 | 789% | 656%
Couple stories suggest themselves:
- These are mostly higher than Spotify's growth (MAU up 54% since 2020)
- Still lots of interest in the Sisters back catalog
- The streaming market means that big bands keep getting bigger?
- At the same time niche artists like GD are reaching a fanbase?
- Suicide hasn't aged well.

a shame that the Sisters wont see a penny from it. Hopefully a knock on effect through merch sales & love tickets. as for Ghost Dance they are an active gigging recording product releleasing entity. so not surprised if they have a growing fanbase.
