Hate to admit it, but I do agree with Mr. Blast here

after the perfection of floodland i think von would have been hard pressed to follow it up with a similarly-styled album that didnt languish in the former's shadow(s).

the different sound of vision thing means it cant really draw comparisons to floodland beyond how dissimilar they are.because of this,i think it fits the natural progression of things;whilst still including heavy nods to the past like ribbons.it seems to reflects the way von was feeling about the sisters as a vehicle for his music ie.the fact that he decided to get a gigging outfit together.-i can actually imagine a band putting VT together.

re.more-i think the female vocals detract from all the tracks that feature them,with the possible exception of something fast.more suffers the most IMO.

re. you could be the one-i think its a top track,with the most blatant p*ss-take lyrics and yeah!yeah!yeah! chorus.however i dont think it should have been on the album 'cause then i would have felt ripped of by the more single!i don't see any reason for it to not be on the cd though,a la torch/colours on floodland.

VT stonks. It has Ribbons on it. And seven other gems.

It's worth remembering that whatever the Sisters do, however subtle (or superficially blatant) the change in styles from one song to the next may be, it always follows the same basic blueprint.

First listen it's Vision Thing and Ribbons, but now it's I Was Wrong, surely one of the best Sisters songs ever. Fact.

It's a great album. The videos are also hugely entertaining.

Didn't Eldritch say that if he did an album for the American market it would have to be an instrumental?

That's the only proper "Sisters" song on it.

When I judge it as Not Very Good I mean in terms of Sisters albums. It's better than that in a universe of music in general though. Slightly better than average perhaps.

Wasn't it done by Von to break the US-rock market and make a tonne of money while taking the p*ss out of US rockers & the media hopefully without them noticing the irony, etc?!

If it was, it's the best thing ever. Shame it didn't work. It's the feeling I got from it, actually. And it had some "proper" Songs like Something Fast, More, and Ribbons, which where incidentily the most "goth" songs on it aswell

I think the main offenders where Detonation Boulevard (by a LONG shot), Doctor Jeep and Vision thing and When You Don't See Me, the rest of the songs were a bit different.

Even though I really like When you don't see me, but that's more rock than the Sister's normal stuff. Still great though, still a little dark and haunting, and not quite like something most bands come up.

Seriously though, the Sisters don't have enough well... Sisters-ish stuff. If they released a new album more along the lines of First and Last and Always, but with some more "Rock" bits thrown in to please those types(like my friend Danny), they'd go pretty far.

Plus, they'd show all these new wussies who's boss in alternative music

I think The Sisters Of Mercy definitely went downhill after 1985.

First album was definitely the best, I think.

I guess it was truer than they thought it was, First and Last and Always, and it is really. It's still the only album *that* band made, first and last, and will always be remembered as a definitive record.

Sure we'd miss Rain From Heaven, Never Land, When You Don't See Me and High School, but we'd still have plenty of great tracks, and Bury Me Deep would be a fitting end.

But recently I've been getting into Von's "newer" stuff, especially Summer.

I don't know what to make of Vision Thing. You Could Be The One is the best song from that era and it's not even on the album.
