Oh I know, and I've really never ever seriously thought about cutting it down, I'd be the first person to defend it if someone else tried to do it! I just "told" it I'd cut it down, for firewood or timber, doesn't really matter (trees can understand such messages, it's been proved by science) because I hoped it would scare it and make it do what I want. But it didn't get scared, so it must have known that I was just kidding.
Just as Eldritch knows that we will always come to gigs regardless of whether he makes the record or not, I suppose.
Oh, if you would like me to see if I can give you any suggestions as to what might be wrong with it, feel free to PM me and I'll tell you what I'll need to know.
PM sent.
If that f**king beloved tree finally decides to give us walnuts I'm sure it will be a good prophecy and we'll see the record too.

Well, that's one way to stop him singing baritone.

If I were AE, which I am not, I would look deep inside and tell myself:"Wow, after all these years of not releasing anything, there are all these fans who are still loyal to me, posting stuff on the web in anticipation of something new. I have a lot of recorded material - why not put it on a record and release it?"
I like a few of their new songs. They have crossed more into the "gothic metal" category, but I don't really mind, as I like both. If someone heard the unreleased Sisters material (Crash and Burn, Summer, and so on) without previously having heard anything by them, they would more likely put them in the Paradise Lost, Tiamat and Katatonia category, as opposed to the Depeche Mode and the Cure. Even the Vision Thing has that style creeping in a little.
I do agree that with no marketing, which he doesn't seem to be interested in, he would not sell much, so if he were to release something, it would not be to make money, but for another reason - hopefully to please us poor souls.
Every year, though, as much as I love their stuff, I listen to them less and less, and I have been finding other good music to enjoy.

Kurt Tucholski wrote:Ten Commandments for the Businessman Who Hires an Artist (1928)
By Kurt Tucholsky
1.
Leave him alone.
2.
Consider first whether the man is right for your company; you can best do this by looking at his works and asking for each one: Can I use that? If you cannot use the majority, don't hire the man. Because:
3.
If an artist is reputable and worth anything, he'll not change himself for your sake, just because you made a contract with him - but if he does change, you only paid for a name, in other words: overpaid the man.
4.
Leave him alone.
5.
Plan carefully, so that your man does not have to rush - art needs time, just like a clean balance. One can, if one is unlucky, shake fleas out of one's sleeve; but not works of art.
6.
Thou shallt honor thy people's Sabbath: you are mistaken if you believe it is a pleasure for strangers to spend their Sundays with your family. By no means is it that.
7.
While the artist you hired is working, hold the works of others under his nose and call upon him, with words of recognition for the other, to do one of these once. That is especially encouraging.
8.
In discussions with your artist, don't consider that you, too, are actually an artist: you were on the verge of studying, but your father put you in his grain business . . . Granted. But don't bring your misplaced ambition with you to the office: the artist does not intrude in your books either - o limit thyself the graceful call of May of your dried-up views of art, to this rose of Jericho!
9.
Listen to the voice of the public, but don't overestimate - in you alone the compass needle must show direction. Twenty letters from the public is nowhere near a popular vote - don't forget that, and don't let the people's stupidity damage your artist.
10.
Leave him alone.
Wise words. And not asking much.

thank you. But not a real come back,
hon. Just strolling ramdomly by after sitting for 6 hours in an online poker tournament and feeling the need to calm the nerves after ending on the third place. And alas, astonishingly nothing ever changes within these walls. Frightening, but as well reassuring in these ever changing times.

I assumed he did it just to ease the creative muse. I can't believe that the person who wrote as many songs as he did in the 2-3 year period between FALAA and Floodland no longer ever has the desire to try and come up with something. Its just these days he only feels like doing it once a year rather than every few weeks (or for his own amusement rather than because a new album/single is due).

Wasn’t the Robbie Williams deal quite a radical one for the record industry in that it recognised that the real money was now in touring, merchandise etc. rather than record sales and that EMI would now take a cut of this revenue? The figures you hear for these deals are always wrong - or more complicated than they appear. I’m not sure this was such a terrible deal for EMI. In fact it will probably be the model for any future investment in a music artist: a backer - whether it’s a traditional record company, a coffee and bun outfit or whatever - providing seed investment to develop, or redevelop, a “brand in order to share in the profits of all the revenue generated by that “brand: touring, merchandise, music sales in whatever format, publishing etc.
I think the “giddy ninnies at EMI who did this deal might have been the smart ones.

So it's The Sisters of Mercy
tm, a registered Trademark of Eldritch Boulevard Inc. and The Reptile House Ltd., then is it?

Ok Ladies and Gentlemen, after a couple of PMs combining Mr Syberberg's knowledge and my inborn ability to notice and describe the symptoms, we've got 2 possible reasons:
1. something (probably a nematode) is attacking the roots,
or
2. the roots have found some sub-soil that they don't like (clay/gravel/sand etc.)
Either way, the reason comes from down below, not from the outside world above.

That is an interesting post about EMI barman. But with Terrafirma taking over, asset stripping, the prat Williams has seen his advances cut. And he's not pleased. Particularly as most of his tracks are co-writing, so publishing-wise he has to share. Not that he is without money.
Anyways, no chance whatsoever that EMI will be interested in a Sisters record.

Looks like Terrairma are kicking out a lot of EMI's marketing staff and putting more emphasis on A&R/scouts. Which bodes well in general terms, but I think you're right about EMI
a) making Von an offer and,
b) making him one he can't refuse.

i'm afraid that sad true is that any major rec. comp don't give a sh!t about any new sisters release, simply he's not interesting as- for example - axle rose's whenever going to be release next album. interesting in -of curse- commercial way.
