Ah, the old punk in me just creased up with laughter when I read this.
Anyway, for me it's probably
The Clash and
The Jam. I like all the songs that I know I'm
supposed to like, and will quite happily act the idiot on a dancefloor when they come on, but I just never
GOT either band. Very worthy, dull, workmanlike stuff.
old punk
as for not getting the Clash...i disagree...they were rather ham fisted in their approach but i most definatly got what Joe Strummer was banging on about...Paul Weller on the other hand was never a punk...modernist in a new wave medium maybe...possibly an angry young man...but not a punk...mmmm...maybe that's why i never got The Jam...
to be honest tho...i didn't really wish to "GET" a band until i understood CRASS...then the bands never made any sence to me anymore so i stopped bothering about them...
out of step...or walking to a different rhythm...i like what i like and i couldn't give a toss if anyone else likes or dis-likes the soundtrack to my life...i've never followed the heard...and i'm not cool enough to be followed
hugs all

Albums I should like but just cannot see what the fuss is all about...
The Who.. Live At leeds- I have most other things by them but bought this and gave it away. Crap.
The Rolling Stones.. Exile- Utter s**t.
Kate Bush..Aerials- Unlistenable.. (apart from King Of The Mountain)
There are many more but the three above have been recomended by friends as essential, I have most things by them yet they remain rubbish.
I have tried to like them!

You've got to admit that the 'washing machine' song, and Pi (sample lyric- 3.........point.............1................4...............1...............5...........9...........2............6.........5.........4.......etc) is not up to 'Hounds Of Love' standard!

Without reading through 4 pages of this, I'm sure these will have been mentioned ;
Rolling Stones, The Beatles & The Who.
I can't say I like anything I've ever heard by any of these bands!!!

Elvis ? The Beatles ? The Stones ? The Who ?
I have the impression that some of you guys listen to that alternative/indie rock thingy much too much. You lost your ability to enjoy good old fashioned popular music.
These guys are good, fact !

Oh, here's another one.
Pearl Jam.
Tedious, angsty, proto-Emo sludge.

I never liked Nivana one bit. Not at all. They were supposed to be 'legendary'.

Yeah, Mudhoney and The Butthole Surfers were a whole lot better

I liked very much 2 of their songs - well, actually they were the same song and the "Teen Spirit" was the less powerful of those 2.
The bad thing was that after
that album (the 2nd one) they did more albums and all kind of stuff...
Of course, I'm expressing only my very personal point of view.

I can get to grips with them fine, it's just that they're s**t
And as for f*cking Nirvana, that moaning tw@t Cobain's greatest mistake was not pulling the trigger a couple of years sooner and sparing the western world from a generation of teenagers that were even more self-pitying and greasy-haired than normal.
*breathes*
Both those bands were such a predictable reaction against the eighties, the pendulum was waiting to swing... that's why they had such a powerful effect, in spite of their horrendous dearth of actual talent.

In that case, he's shot up in my estimation.

Never mind came out just before I started high school.
The pain !!!
I went back to it some years ago, thinking that maybe after all these years I'd see the album differently and find something good in it. I didn't. The only noticeable tunes are the hit singles (Smells & Come as...) and they're hardly unforgettable. The rest is not only pish, it's utterly boring, which might be even worse.
And then In utero came out
when I was in high school.
