As this forum (and much of the Internet) is conducted in written language, surely it is an aid to communication to attempt to use the language in a proper manner? While deliberate ambiguity is the goal some seek from their writings (
) on a forum such as this, it is surely best that the ideas of a member are communicated in as clear a way as possible. Such clarity is improved by correct use of grammar, spelling and punctuation, whereas mistakes can only lead to confusion.
Furthermore, English has one of the largest vocabularies of any language, and when I see it reduced to the likes of "OMG ur well g0fFik innnit !!!11!1!" I want to scream. (I hasten to add that this sort of text-speak is seldom seen on the Heartland forum, unless used for comedic effect.) That the language of Shakespeare, Milton, and Blake can be reduced to this is surely a matter for shame for all native English speakers.
Lastly, I am amazed at the fluency with which many non-native speakers of English use the language, frequently doing so more correctly than many, or even most natives. I do have some proficiency with some other languages, but I know that I would be simply incapable of following the kinds of discussions that we have here in any language other than English.
I like english, it is a pretty language.
Albeit the effort to spell correctly on the part of some very nice and willing people (myheartlanders
) I stopped trying to learn it on the internet a long time ago.

Also worth reading Spike Milligan's war memoirs. Very funny and also very moving.

I do believe I answered that question. If I may refer you to page 1
Sorry Mum.

Hmmmm...
It's been a slow day at the office then, has it??
Come on Von, get yer Product out before your fans implode leaving just a puff of dry - but gramatically correct - ice behind.
That's one without an umlaut by the way...
We could all just be friends, of course...

Not particulary - actually the issue was dealt with amicably and left at that. Please consider a thread in its entirety before responding. Thanks.

Not meaning to stick my oar in or anything but implying you're not welcome here is a bit beyond a 'silly dispute'. But there you go...
