Believe me...when I hear it myself I will be pissed. But reading it the way like this and trying to imagine it....I just have to laugh....

Oh, I didn't hear it directly. Obviousman reported having read it on the Lokerse Feesten homepage.... Was enough to send me through the roof though, but I'm admittedly hot-tempered - must be the Italian blood in my veins...

Yea, loads of people complaining on there They were playing from a tape, Rammstein copy (forgot a bout that one ) etc... Some people just never learn

Don't have a lot to add to this discussion you guys are doing a great job, but I think whoever mentioned the covers was right, it could raise the attention if some bigger band would cover them... Not something like Lambchop, or whatever other band mentioned now but one of the hyped names of the moment...

Still, now would be a great moment to jump into the industry again, as 80s music -like Joy Div- is rising again. Perhaps it would be even better to release something before getting discovered again, but don't really know

I have to agree! The interest is rising!!!!

On TV in the area where I live we got a Preview Channel with "Bloomberg" and "Classic Hits". Classic hits contains a lot of 80's rock/wave music and one of the clips you are able to see more than often is "this corrosion". I had response from a few of my younger friends not knowing the Sisters but now refering to this.

It's what I said before. An almost complete new generation hardly knows the Sisters. They listen to the new Depeche Mode, FOTN, Simple Minds etc.

Talking about the new generation...i introduced my mates little sister to the sisters of mercy, she thinks they are great, she now has a thing for Eldritch, kind of worrying considering she is 12

I'm not a Rammstein fan or anything... I don't think I've ever heard an entire song of their, and at risk of being beaten by you lot:

You can't really blame someone for calling them Rammstein clones. We've been to see the Sisters' live shows in the past... erm, what, 15 years? *We* know their sound has changed. But from the point of view of someone who's only heard all four CDs of the Sisters' prolific output, that might be a valid comment. It's not like the Sisters are a visible band. A whole generation's gone by without a Sisters release.

I don't know if whoever made that comment can be blamed for the affront to the Sisters' First and Last and Always status!

That said, I have no idea if the current Sisters actually sound like Rammstein or not!

@ bshowers: nope. the 2005 flavour sisters sound nothing like them. neither did he 2003, the 2001 nor any other incarnation. the music is nowhere near thrashy enough to be rammstein clones, and the vocals are nothing like...

saying the sisters sound like rammstein clones is like saying siouxsie and the banshees sound like aztec camera. anyone who thinks this has either never listrened to more than 5 seconds of both bands, or needs their ears syringing...

doesnt matter what you know or dont know about the sisters lineage and their sound's progression. they just dont sound anything like.

And for me - as the sad, old and narrow-minded moralist I am - the fact that The Sisters were on the international stage far before Rammstein plays another significant role. As if somebody said Anne Clark copied Sara Nox (sp?)... I know I am completely wrong and ask for far too much, but I stubbornly expect the youth of today to do some serious musical research on influences and history before uttering any statement of comparison... Oh dear, I am hopeless...

I can't stand people saying X influenced Y without having done some research on who started first too

I meant if one of the mainstream popular bands covers or samples something by The Sisters it might open up major label interest in Eldritch.If The Sugarbabes sampling "Our friends electric" can help Gary Numan resuccitate his career to a mild degree,imagine what Eldritch with better songs and more charisma could do..
As for me saying his heart isn't in it anymore,the occasional live performance when you feel like doing one isn't commitment to one's musical career,is it?
It's something he does for a bit of fun,or if your feeling cynical,pin-money.I see little to no signs that he's motivated to write any new material (one song every few years isn't exactly prolific),and he's always hated extensive touring,so there's even less chance when he's unwilling to really make the effort anymore.
I don't unlike some take it as an insult that he doesn't compose/tour more often,but I'm a little bemused at times as to the conflicting information he sometimes gives out.

point well taken though..

if you see that here in Belgium alone there is a whole generation of "house music lovers" who don't know that most of their beloved tunes are in fact rip-offs of great 80's electronic tunes, set by pioneers such as anne clark (metropolis), garry numan (friends), etc... (and i know, cause i used to be a dj in clubs and bars, so i used a lot of house music aswell.. )

and must be said also along the line of that, that the sisters were also pioneers in the genre, using drum computers and so on...

true... i collect 80's albums (vinyl) and it's getting harder and harder to find them, since they are all being bought up by dj's who have rediscovered the 80's...

the guy of the store told me that electro is verry much on the rise again in the music industry...you can see that clearly also whith Vive La Fete, who played just before the sisters at the lokerse last summer)

But Rammstein are the logical conclusion to the evolutionary tale that is The Sisters, surely? Even if Til's German isn't as good as Our Fearless Leader's.

when I heard first time "We Are the Same, Susanne" I wondered why this song isn't released as a single or something. I thought (and I still think) it's not music only for people who need special treatment, it's just a great tune (while even music made for people with special needs is quite popular these days )
