We like old news, old rumours, old bands and old songs, so:
According the famous well known site http://tours.tsom.org/1997dot/ it was
Perry Bamonte from The Cure who turned down invitation to be the replacement of Chris Starling. (and then Mike Varjak entered the set)
Funny... i always thought Von didn't like The Cure. How would that've been gone?
L.A. Sheraton, summer of 1996: Distant Phonecall from Andrew Eldritch to Mr. Bamonte. "Hi, it's me, that singer from that other non-goth band but always accused of being goth"
Distance over Time: Perry bamonte - almost- a guitarist

It's the other way around. Perry has always been a Sisters fan.dinky daisy wrote: Funny... i always thought Von didn't like The Cure. How would that've been gone?

Maybe he just didn't want to leave The Cure.radiojamaica wrote:Why didn't he join the girls then?
Or maybe he didn't have enough self confidence to play lead guitar.
Or maybe Von wasn't able to offer enough cash.
Or maybe it was just a rumour (Perry being a Sisters fan is no rumour though).

Take it, that you weren't too keen on 'The Cure' L.P. then?dinky daisy wrote:He could do it now, though. Mr. Bamonte left The Cure tribute band this year.
Apparently, Perry didn't leave, as such, but was told to go
I never realised that Eldritch wasn't a fan of The Cure.. Always assumed from the Perry rumour that there was some kind of respect there

We've noticed that too, Bob.
Strikes me as good-natured ribbing rather than out-and-out dislike.
