Appears unfortunate but having friends in Defra I can see both sides...
If there was an outbreak of avian flu however my partner and I already have a plan of how to remove our parrot before there are orders for destruction. Our parrot has never had contact with other birds and presents no danger to the general public

They were going on about preserving the sanctity of life etc.
What would they really prefer here?
1 cow put down (humanely by all accounts)
or.....
A team of government "slaughterers" trampling all over the place, whacking the whole lot with a bolt gun or whatever, as if on a production line & slinging them into a pit to be burnt en masse?
