Didn't the Cure do a shopping list first?

I always thought the emphasis of the lyrics being...
'Tracer cartridges are used for target identification,
fire adjustment, signal purposes and destroying personnel
(Destroying personnel)'
...a political comment on the roles of weaponry being seen as 'cool' within our present culture ;)

What I think is, :von: chose the particular government sales flyer in question because of the line "Finland red, Germany black, Egypt white" (weapon is color-coded for the client country), leaving Germany out of the song's title so as to better "mark" this with his name: finland red, egypt white." :!:

Avtomat Kalashnikova... well, I remember when I went to school - back in 80s, when my country was still added to one big totalitarian state - we exercised taking off AKs and putting them back again. marks depended on the fast of doing it.
sorry, it was quite off-topic but that was what I recall seeing the picture.

My wife did that as well (she's from Vilnius). Every once in a while, she'll threaten to break out the AK on me :)

 Indeed, and we also had to learn about how to behave in a shelter in case of atom explosion, and how to use gas masks. That was cool! :notworthy:
Well not really, but in a way it was cool. :|

 I don't remember even ever having touched a gun. The only time I've even seen guns is carried by policemen at airports or outside the UK.

We had to learn hiding behind things for a long time incase those pesky Germans threatened to come back again. And how to build a nuclear shelter from a kitchen table and rolled up newspaper incase those troublesome Ruskies started shouting too loud.
I´m going to teach my child how to speak different languages and to be really tolerent with everyone incase her future is threatened by misunderstanding.
All my life I've wanted to be someone; I guess I should have been more specific.

I thought it was the ammunition that was colour-coded? I'll have to listen to the track again to be sure though.

As for the choice of AK-47? Well, just have a look at the history of said assault rifle. As it's been the weapon of choice for pretty much every single armed insurrection of the 20th/21st Century (primarily due to ease of manufacture and maintenance), it's practically the icon of rebellion.
I don't necessarily agree with everything I think.
