BBC lump Sisters in with bizarre 80s scene shock

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Long-rumoured to be in Production and finally on screen, the BBC are launching a Goth season of programmes for those chilly autumnal nights (presumably the end of October  ) but in a strange move TSOM (despite being a mixture of Industrial Groove Machine and Rock'n'Roll band) are to be included in a show entitled Goths At The BBC. :von: will no doubt be keeping his over-worked lawyers busy.

At last , a faint sniff of value for money for my license fee. I hope it's not all the old Top of the Pops footage or the OGWT that we've seen a million times.

So not even a faint sniff then.

Classic performances.....

Could be worth a punt. Especially if they upscale them a bit for HD broadcasting

What else could it be that the BBC would have rights to?!

Any attention to the Sisters is good news, right?

I'll stick my neck out say there'll be bugger all else on worth watching, unless you like Strictly The Dancing X Factor bollocks, so I think it'll be a good hour spent.

how come The Cure and The Mishtake get the definitive article and we don't ?

but seriously, this gothic tag: isn't about time we grew up a bit about it? (and no, that's not a dig at Eldritch's height, or, indeed, a suggestion necessariy aimed at him.)
apart from the mish, none of the bands mentioned embraced the label (as apart from the mish they all started before the label existed to describe a sub-culture) but it is without doubt those bands (amongst a few -but not many- others) who are/were the definitive bands that goths llistened to when the "movement" started. presumably the heavily poetic and dark atmospherics that those bands relied on in their early days were why most of us bought their records- and therefore what their careers were based on- and it was us that were labelled goths...the bands were who we listened to and that's why they got labelled similarly.
no-one's saying that those bands wern't able to grow beyond their beginings, but t's a bit of an insult to an entire sub-culture of people who revered those bands -ie made the careers of- to deny any link to the term. it's also a bit like saying the beatles weren't a great pop band because they went on to write sgt.peppere's and abbey road. I agree. Also, whether we like it or not, when you see a goth-themed article, gig, album or whatever I think most of us have a quick look at it to see if it features any of our in-no-way goth bands. Its useful for that at least.

are you? i'd never have guessed... :innocent:

seriously though, when i got into the sisters it was a bit of a departure from the music i was already listening to -black sabbath, thin lizzy, ac/dc etc- and were definitely the first "alternative"/goth band i was into. of course amongst the small-minded (my mother, at the time, liked all of the music i liked until i discovered the sisters) there was and still is a huge difference, and although i don't think the gulf is so great i couldn't say all the music i like is heavy metal, nor is it all punk or all goth. for myself i'm probably not a goth and never have been (i've never dyed my hair black but everything else has always been black) but some of my best friends are and i like goth music, so sue me. ;D :von:

I'm sure that you do remember and just want someone to post a link to this thread https://www.myheartland.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=24021 but I would never do such a thing to a Moderator.

I think Craig is happy as long as he's on stage playing his bass. I doubt he spends much of his time worrying about labels.

I'm sure the label doesn't apply to anyone on here, but I have a friend who thinks he might be a goth and he recommended this new advert for German DIY chain Hornbach : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Hjy6ie16z3s

That's like a Hendrix fan saying "I hope it's not the Lulu Show again."
