Star Wars VII

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

It's looks stunning but my only concern is that in attempt to distance itself from the prequel trilogy it could well be a pretty heavy and downbeat movie. **SPOILER ALERT** I mean, it had been rumoured that Han Solo would meet his end in this movie and if you study the trailer it appears that Rey is getting all emosh over a brown jacket and something big and hairy.

Jesus, how does someone my age watch Chewbacca and Han Solo get wasted and not come out of the cinema requiring some kind of counselling?

Hey, this one is written by the guy who wrote the Star Wars film that started with a brother-sister scene and finished with the baddie telling the hero that he f**ked his mother...

I think I'm old enough to handle Han going but if they harm one hair on that wookiee's head

Frankly I'd be ok with Han and Chewie getting vapourised, pulped, liquidated or otherwise terminated. Can't honestly say that I was that vested in them.

Just don't ask me about the amount of pollen that suddenly appeared in the air while I was watching the School Reunion episode of Doctor Who, when it seemed that K-9 had been destroyed...

Can you imagine what non-earth species readers are making of this article? " 'Ere, Zarg - you read this? There's films on planet earth, right, and right after people watch them they drop dead!"

I've now booked for me and the boy to see it on Sunday the 20th which basically means no internet for me from next Thursday. I mean, I kinda know what bad stuff is going down but there's bound to be some spoilers knocking about.

Can I add that if anyone spoils the new movie for me they will be terminated with extreme prejudice.

I have to wait until 20th when the local cinema is showing it in its original language.
Watching the others in Hungarian almost fried my brain, although Jar Jar was actually better in Hungarian (if that's really saying anything).
Cheers.

As part of my preparation I decided to watch Episodes I-VI.

Then, of course, I realised that was ridiculous as I don't have the time for that and I simply couldn't be arsed. In the end I found myself watching one of those 'making if' docu's on The Phantom Menace DVD and, and this is what I'm getting at, looking back it was clear George Lucas completely misjudged a great many things. Jar Jar Binks, for example, during pre-production he clearly believed he would be a hit with kids and adults because he thought he was so funny. Which he wasn't even if you're five years old. And the backlash of that meant Episode II was even more of a mess because I think the Binks character was supposed to be as involved as the Jedi and a badly written story became even more so.

That said, I feel the prequels get too much hate. It's easy to slag them off but they still have some great moments. Christopher Lee, for example, I could watch be a Sith all day long.

I read recently that Binks was Lucas' fave character.
For sure there are some bright points in the sequels, but as a whole package, they really did suck big time.
When you have a story revolving around the development of Anakin/ Vader's origins & transition you really need to cast someone with more acting ability than a dining chair in that role.
& given that McGregor is an accomplished actor too, I have to ask myself did Lucas intentionally direct him to be worse than Christensen to keep Anakin as the focal point?
Cheers.

I always wondered if McGregor was just trying too hard to be Alec Guiness.

Doesn't help when he's given lines like "How did that happen? We're smarter than this." And I'm sure he said he found it really hard constantly acting to a greenscreen.

I won't be going to see the new films. Love the originals, hate the prequels, never liked anything I've seen by J.J., Abrams, and have long since come to the conclusion (not just with Star Wars but lots of others too) that once something's over and done and the dust has settled, you shouldn't go back and try to do it again. I have no desire to see Han Solo and Princess Leia with their zimmers, and nor do I want to see Star Wars with a bunch of new characters who aren't Luke, Han and Leia. It was wonderful 30-odd years ago, it doesn't need to be done again.

Amen, if only more people had a bit of class rather than greed.

Got to admit that I'm looking forward to it and will be handing over my cash like the cheap trash that I am. (might torrent it if there's a good copy going, cheaper still)

People often forget what a childish movie Return Of The Jedi is due to the fog of nostalgia.
