RIP Stephen Hawking

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Here's
Selection of this quotes.

Yesterday my daughter picked "A brief history of Time" from bookshelf next to our bed to play with her mom/my wife.

Absolutely. And a hero in fact in countering his disease ... it's almost a wonder he got that old. But it was him who managed ...

R.I.P. Mr Hawking ... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: ...

And he died on Einstein's birthday, who also died aged 76. on Pi day.

Very sad today for the loss to his family and friends, and for science.

According to God's twitter, it's only been a few hours and Hawking has already mathematically proved to His face that He doesn't exist.

Back in 1985 I was in 8th class, a pupil describing whom as mediocre might have been overcheering. In our school library, I came across a book about black holes by a certain Mr. Sullivan which got me interested in physics. A miraculously competent physicist who was suffering from hat terrible disease, who nonetheless was one of the greatest living physicists of our time was mentioned.
When I saw his book "A Brief History of Time" in the bookshop, I got it instantly.
It set me on fire. Someone finally made me see what I might go to school for. This was the spark I never got anywhere before.
Two years later, I was among the five best of my school. I went on to study physics.
Thousands obstacles forced me to give up there, but the fascination for the subject never got less for me. Along with this brilliant Mr. Eldritch, Professor Hawking was one of the most inspiring people outside of my family to me.
:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: times a gazillion.
I did get a moist eye today when I read the news.

Twitter also pointed out Jim Bowen left shortly after Hawking - in true Bullseye tradition the non darts player always goes first...

I heard that he refused a knighthood in protest of the government's lack of funding for science.

Some Years back I went to Cambridge Cinema to see the film Babe. The film started about 20 mins late as Stephen Hawking and carers were VIP Guests. My friend went to the same school in Cambridge as his daughter Lucy.

Curious how many people read or understood any of his books?

Genius and he died the same day Einstein was born!

The film is a biopic though isn't it? Rather than a film-of-the-book.
