2020 top 10

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Yeah, list time.
My personal favourites from 2020. A year where new music has been actually pretty bloody excellent.

What are yours?
Cheers.

Great idea. Lal have to have a think. Hard to separate what I discovered this year versus what was released this year

I know what you mean. I discovered Still Corners only this year & was instantly smitten. Then I found out they played Budapest last year on the A38 which is probably my favourite venue. I was....cross.
A lot of what I've discovered has been courtesy of a friend who presents a radio show on Tuesdays & Thursdays called PastForward. He's playing this years listener voted top 20 today.
Cheers.

Finally dig, at the very end of this year (thanks to my wife who bought me a present): Harry Nilsson.
Brilliant artist he was.

I discovered no new-new/recent artist/band, and I got stumbled across so many new pseudos, band names that i can't recall, yet don't feel urge to bother to find out more.

Hate when that happens. The universe conspiring against you. Like when The Sisters played The Galaxy many years ago when I wasnt paying attention. The Galaxy is Orange County's only proper venue, negating the need to drive up to LA. Rarely anyone decent plays there. Imagine me finding out several years after the fact Eldo, Avo and the Gang were there, my one and only chance of seeing them. Grrrrr

Back to the task at hand, found it quite hard to pinpoint 10 bands I bought new music from this year. 6 Music turned me on to plenty of new artists but not enough that I would say 'I'm a fan of' and would buy their music.

Heres what I have so far, in no particular order:
- All Them Witches "Nothing As The Ideal"
- Idles "Ultra Mono"
- Fontaines DC "A Heroes Death"
- Faithless "All Blessed"
- Moby "All Visible Objects"
- Stone Rebel "Land of the Dying Dreams" or "The Road To Eternity" or "Flying Earth"
- Occult Hand Order "The Chained The Burned The Wounded"
- Steven Wilson "12 Things I Forgot"
- Brian Eno "Mixing Colours"

Artists I discovered in 2020 that released material in previous years:
Floating Points
King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizard
Christine and the Queens
Them Crooked Vultures

Artists with new material out in 2020 I"ll have to check out at a later date:
Gorillas "Song Machine Season 1"
Phoebe Bridgers
Four Tet
Future Islands "As Long As You Are"
Bruce Sprinsteen "A Letter For You"
Sonic Boom
Tycho

My album of the year would have to be Addict by The Dub Pistols. Every track superb.
