"There’s no immediate plan to record or release anything".
I'm looking forward to the shows, and love the new material . . . but this is a depressing interview. Ben does mention being 'in the studio' but then says there are no plans to record.
Real shame. I know that's nothing new for this place, but even so. A lad can hope.

Think it's a nice interview, says nowt especially new but confirms they've been writing new stuff and preparing well for the shows. Can't say I get depressed at whether bands do or don't release albums but maybe that's just me.
'What a heavy load Einstein must have had. Morons everywhere.'
While it's definitely a nice interview, the lack of immediate plans to record or release does feel like a step back from early last year. A few of us had it direct from the band that But Genevieve was to be a single last summer, but then nobody could have predicted the way last year turned out, and I guess the lack of a tour scuppered any such plans, however concrete (or not) they may have been. It's good to hear that the more positive vibes from inside the camp are still continuing though, and I'm definitely looking forward to any new material they might play, as well as any oldies they feel like trundling out and wrecking.
Now, if only we could get We Built This City On Rock 'n' Roll, but maybe they'll save that one for Leeds next year?

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

no new album but why would there be? now we are all 5G ( "2....5.....0....0.....0....jihad!" )'d up with GM Chimp-Adreno (chrome) virus /DNA (forty thousand five hundred and fifty pounds per square inch) The Sisters Of Mercy will no doubt be beaming the Quality Of Mercy straight into our brains (We Forgive As We Forget Rain From Heaven ) as if they had ALWAYS done it that way...

An "interview" of what, 7 questions? It doesn't really give much away.

Maybe you'll get a fresh opportunity to interrogate Davey.

I must have read several iterations of this interview pre-tour since the mid-90's. But, I keep the faith and live in hope of (a) release.
....if I have to explain, then you'll never understand....
Von doesn't want to do interviews because he's done a lot of them over the years, and also I would guess because he knows all anyone really wants to ask him about is a new album. Easier to avoid the question than to trot out the 'we record all the time' line he's been using for 30 years.

Exactly, well put. Like someone wrote, these interviews can be cranked out by an algorithm. At least he's talking about all of the new songs. And they must have quite a bit of recorded material from rehearsals and working on new songs...but perfectionism prevents him from trying to get "definitive" takes down. We can only hope old age and new band blood just wears him down in the end.
"Consistency is the sign of a decaying brain"
Not wanting to be too optimistic, but what would Ben have said if there ARE plans to record/release something? I think he would have said the same as now. I can't imagine the first release in several decades being announced in a small pre-tour interview, or any other interview. (or announced at all, it would feel more like Sisters to just see it on the homepage one day without drama)
I still think there might be something in the works, and the reason for this is the total pointlessness and waste of time and money in entering a studio at all unless you plan to do something with the material. Or put up 20-ish new songs on the homepage (and probably more unpublished titles) that you will have no chance to play live without throwing out the classics, which they won't.

"In the studio" means Ben and Dylan laying down guitar parts for all the songs that Eldritch will never bother to record vocals for.

I always feel sorry for the other bandmembers (usually Ben or, previously, Chris) for having to defend stuff in interviews that are so clearly Vons decisions. Of course they would want to release new music, and of course they would like a bass player in the band, but The Paramount Leader can’t be bothered and so they have to publicly defend his decisions as if though they stood behind them 100%. That has got to be tough.
