The 10 Best Sisters of Mercy songs of all time..

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Hmm.

NTTC in the top ten?, No, no, no.

Actually, this could be an April fool.

"“Black Planet” is a brooding and atmospheric song by The Sisters of Mercy, originally released on their 1987 album “Floodland.”

But then I checked the date.

Still any publicity and all that.

It’s so formulaic and bad that I suspect it was written by an AI (and not a particularly good one).

odd that choose to quote lyrics for "Body Electric" that not only arent in the song, theyre not from ANY Sisters song! That level of authority on the band beats anything we could possibly know...

I never understood why y'all hate NTTC tbh.
I mean, I get why You Could be The One isn't everyone's cuppa, but NTTC is a very honest sisters song if you ask me.

It's just a bit of a very average plodder. My personal beef is when they dropped it live and played Walk Away instead for a few dates it was amazing and everyone had a jolly old time, then they went back to NTTC.
All IMHO of course.

I'd rank NTTC higher than Walk Away, Afterhours, Possession, Dr Jeep and Will I Dream, but I get that I'm weird like that.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

It's maybe kind of a straightforward pretty pop song? It's just a feeling I get sometimes, no time for heartache no time to cry wouldn't necessarily take Andrew to write. I really like it but I kinda understand why some people who want the weird Sisters don't

Yea also this, I'm sure it's written by ChatGPT if you've ever tried that. Sometimes it's scary good but often also has that distinct dopey quality of when you try to get the form right to be convicing but don't exactly know what the hell you're talking about  Like it'll just invent its own Sisters lyrics or its own rules at chess:

Silly article, but glad to see some support for NTTC here. I’ve never understood why it is unloved in some quarters. Definitely in my top 10 Sisters tunes as simply a bittersweet pop song, excellently executed.

Maybe just because of its positioning on the record, I’ve always felt it was intrinsically linked to Walk Away. Two sonic bedfellows… different sides of the same coin. I rarely listen to one without then playing the other too.

I'd no idea that song was so loathed! I think it's one of my favourite songs ever written.

I'm also on the NTTC disapproval train. Its not awful but it's usually a skip. Why drop a crowd better like Walk Away back for NTTC?

Not only are they not from any Sisters song, they're not from any song. At least Googling the lyrics produces only two hits, that site itself and the same story ripped off on the Melody maker site. How weird.

Having quickly scanned that awful article, I'm sure it's written by a broken AI. Spotted the following glaringly obvious errors / bad jokes:

"The chorus, with its repeated refrain of “Alice, Alice, who the f*** is Alice?” has become iconic and remains a fan favorite."

“Dominion” is a high-energy rock anthem by The Sisters of Mercy, released on their 1990 album “Vision Thing.”

As for NTTC, I love it. It's not up there with their top tier tracks but it's second tier, for sure.

In fact, come to think of it, I was lying in bed this morning singing the chorus repeatedly to myself, for no apparent reason.

Just for fun, I've had a quick go at my top 10:

1. Floorshow
2. Alice
3. Marian
4. T.O.L ('83)
5. FALAA
6. Walk Away
7. ARAAHP
8. Body Electric
9. Amphetamine Logic
10. Some Kind of Stranger

I've just noticed. They've apparently found a video for Vision Thing.
I did chuckle at the whole Body Electric 1984 ep thing
Cheers.

Walk Away. NTTC and RAAHP are imo all below average for Sisters output pre 1986. Musically quite good but the chorus sucks on all of them.
Black Planet is such a great opener .... I'm always disappointed when it ends. Luckily Marian saves the day after the mediocre three have passed.

(Mediocre Three - great name for a band)

of course if I compiled another top 10 of all time list in 10 minutes or so, it'd likely be a bit different. And if cover versions were thrown in it'd be different too.

For an LP regularly called a classic, I always think that Side 1 of FALAA contains some of the weakest songs. WA and NTTC being the weakest links. They worked live as new material pre-split but nowadays, there are so many other songs I'd rather hear that it irks when they pop up...

1. Andrenochrome
2. Romeo Down
3. Train
4. Driven Like Snow
5. War On Drugs
6. Fix
7. Nine While Nine
8. Some kind Of Stranger
9. Summer
10. Top Nite Out
