Dear Doktor

Yesterday evening, my 14 year old son discovered my Rocky Horror Picture Show 25th Anniversary Edition DVD. I admit that I had hidden it from general view in case my appreciation of the fine performances by the entire cast was mistaken for sinful, perverted depravity. Imagine my dismay, then, when he held it aloft, looked at me with disdain and proclaimed in disbelief "Father, why on earth would you buy a DVD with a picture like THAT on the front?" Oh Doktor! What am I to do? I fear my wanton lasciviousness may have scarred him for life.

Yours
Shameful of Pubsey

Sit him down, tell him "son, this stuff will rock your world". Make him watch it. If he isn't up doing the Time Warp by the end, disown him :)

or even better, take him to a live show....14 you say? Yeah, it's about the right age :)

Dear Shameful of Pubsey,

Dear, oh dear. Rocky Horror? Do you not know that Grease is much much better, aswell as being good, wholesome clean family fun! I would even go so far as to say that Grease is "the word".

Let's review the evidence:

Rocky Horror - ugly men in drag, goths, silly silly songs that are really annoying
Grease - quiffs, leather jackets, hot rods, songs about "chicks creaming" :o

The defence rests its case, m'lud.

Best wishes,
The Doktor

In my experienced opinion, having been to a "Rocky Horror Show" performance (with Jason Donovan as Frank!) I can say "Rocky Horror" is one of the best ever musicals - be it live or the movie.

That said I also really love "Paint Your Wagon" :-)

On the subject of "Grease" it would be great if it were not for that "Oorr" pause bit during a song - I HATE THAT!!!!!

I'd agree with that. Only IMO it's a bit like saying "the most pleasant case of piles". I just don't get musicals I'm afraid.

Even Rocky Horror gets boring after the first half-hour.
