What label did this track appear under - I believe it was on the single for "No Time to Cry".

Was this also on Elektra records? If someone can confirm it, I am looking for the last company to hold the copyright on this track.

The words and music were written by Eldritch and the publishing was
held by RCA Music Ltd / Candelmaesse Ltd on its release through
WEA in 1985 on the b-side of No Time To Cry.

It very much depends on the contract Eldritch had with Warners at the
time, but a typical period for a record company to hold the copyright of
a song is fifteen years, after which it normally reverts back to the artist.

There is a good chance that Eldritch now holds the rights, unless he has
already sold the back catalogue for this period, as he did with the early
Indie singles.

Somebody who is more au fait with the music industry will be able to
tell you how to track down the rights.

The easiest way is to make a dance/techno version, publish it and wait to see who comes asking you for money...

The publishing of this track is currently held by:
Polygram International Music Publishing Ltd. (Original Publisher) They may have a sub-publisher in your country.

But you need to clear also the mechanical royalties of the recording you use for a remix. (check with the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society of your country. All you need is to tell them the labelcode of the recording you want to use.)

In case you want to make a cover (no change whatsoever in lyrics nor notes), you don't need to ask anyone (the correct copyright on the sleeve will do)

I wouldn't sell the rights to a song as good as Floorshow or Alice.

Sorry to put a downer on this, mr VNV, but if the film you're referring to that you'd like to use the song in is the vampire one called 'Dead Heaven', you can expect a lot of resistance indeed from mr Eldritch. A mixture of resistance and silence, anyway. He's vetoed the use of his music in a LOT of films in the past, and is VERY touchy about anything with too 'dark' (g*thic???) a feel to it. So I'm not saying don't try, because you should, but I guess I'm saying good luck, because you may need it.

Which is why I'm banking on that chance that he sold the rights because the track is from the very early years. In that case, permission would be needed from the copyright holder (publishing company). No Eldritch "I'm Not Gothic" stuff to deal with.

But, you know what I say when dealing with sisters material and the chance of being denied permission...when in doubt - go with Clan of Xymox.

There is a great company that has an army of lawyers and music experts who can be contracted to do the searching and hunting for you.
