don't know whether this is your end or mine,but been having difficulties accessing/refreshing pages.to start with it was just really slow but a few times it said:

critical error:phpBB
unable to access database.

thought i'ld let you know.

hmm, yes. that would be a problem here at the heartland end

what time(s) and how often did you see that? any idea? and did anyone else have the same problem?

HL went slow for me yesterday night for a few minutes - seemed to me to be a problem with the server (at a guess, the MySQL service was restarted by your hosting people)

it happened two or three times,between 11.30pm and midnightish.it didn't happen again after my post about it.

ahhh, now thats interesting

thats around the time my "cronjob" runs an automated backup of the database.

i wonder if the backup script is locking the database while its running

having said that, the script should take no more than a minute or so to actually run.

you say you got that message over an extended period of time? not just for a few seconds?

they were fairly close together,within a few minutes at most because i was browsing old topics looking for a link.and probably nearer to midnight ,as it was 12.07 when i posted. any more accurate than that i can't do,sorry.

looks like it could be at the same time as the db backup. i'll have a poke around the logs and see what i can see.

00:03 hrs 01-Aug-2005, lasted 30 secs until a refresh brought everything back to normal.

sounds very much like QB's guess of the database backup triggered, by the cronjob, being the cause.

Since it's only temporary I guess we sit there and keep refreshing until it's done if we happen to be on the forum at midnight.

they're only a minor annoyance which last such a short time it would be churlish to complain -and not half as annoying as the s**t my computer gives me half the time.

as long as HL and your hardware's alright,thats all that matters.

I've got an all new error message!

message_die() was called multiple times. This isn't supposed to happen. Was message_die() used in page_tail.php?

Happened a couple of minutes before this post.
