Oh I know, and I've really never ever seriously thought about cutting it down, I'd be the first person to defend it if someone else tried to do it! I just "told" it I'd cut it down, for firewood or timber, doesn't really matter (trees can understand such messages, it's been proved by science) because I hoped it would scare it and make it do what I want. But it didn't get scared, so it must have known that I was just kidding.
Just as Eldritch knows that we will always come to gigs regardless of whether he makes the record or not, I suppose.

If I were AE, which I am not, I would look deep inside and tell myself:"Wow, after all these years of not releasing anything, there are all these fans who are still loyal to me, posting stuff on the web in anticipation of something new. I have a lot of recorded material - why not put it on a record and release it?"

I like a few of their new songs. They have crossed more into the "gothic metal" category, but I don't really mind, as I like both. If someone heard the unreleased Sisters material (Crash and Burn, Summer, and so on) without previously having heard anything by them, they would more likely put them in the Paradise Lost, Tiamat and Katatonia category, as opposed to the Depeche Mode and the Cure. Even the Vision Thing has that style creeping in a little.

I do agree that with no marketing, which he doesn't seem to be interested in, he would not sell much, so if he were to release something, it would not be to make money, but for another reason - hopefully to please us poor souls.

Every year, though, as much as I love their stuff, I listen to them less and less, and I have been finding other good music to enjoy.

I assumed he did it just to ease the creative muse. I can't believe that the person who wrote as many songs as he did in the 2-3 year period between FALAA and Floodland no longer ever has the desire to try and come up with something. Its just these days he only feels like doing it once a year rather than every few weeks (or for his own amusement rather than because a new album/single is due).

Wasn’t the Robbie Williams deal quite a radical one for the record industry in that it recognised that the real money was now in touring, merchandise etc. rather than record sales and that EMI would now take a cut of this revenue? The figures you hear for these deals are always wrong - or more complicated than they appear. I’m not sure this was such a terrible deal for EMI. In fact it will probably be the model for any future investment in a music artist: a backer - whether it’s a traditional record company, a coffee and bun outfit or whatever - providing seed investment to develop, or redevelop, a “brand� in order to share in the profits of all the revenue generated by that “brand�: touring, merchandise, music sales in whatever format, publishing etc.
I think the “giddy ninnies� at EMI who did this deal might have been the smart ones.

Looks like Terrairma are kicking out a lot of EMI's marketing staff and putting more emphasis on A&R/scouts. Which bodes well in general terms, but I think you're right about EMI

a) making Von an offer and,

b) making him one he can't refuse.
