factory sealed UK/Ger 1988 and 1992 FALAA possible to get?

Have you established a good reputation at HL and got some Sisters stuff to sell or trade with the community? Or are you searching for that elusive ultra rare live bootleg from 1988? Ever had a bad experience with a trader on Ebay? Let us all know here. Outdated threads will be purged over time.

Now in 2008, is it possible at all to get new, factory sealed UK/Germany 1988 and 1992 First and Last and Always CDs? Where?? And if so, will the respective prices kill me?

Also: Very impotant. Collectors from UK, Nederland, Germany and geographically similar do you know/remember if the 1988 CDs were FACTORY (by WEA) sealed at all? And if 1992 CDs were FACTORY (by WEA) sealed at all?

I looked through the european amazon zshops but somehow I don't see myself ending up with a new and perfect 1988 CD for example. Did anybody have positive experiences? There's also an eBay shop that also sells clothes and stuff ("vampyre222"). They seem to have the 1988 CD as a regular there. But maybe it's just one single copy. I don't know. Does anybody know that shop? Any experiences with the 1988 CD from there?

I think you might get more help in trading than Sisters chat...

I bought a factory sealed copy of the 1988 CD a couple of years ago. It's the German release ("Manufactured in Germany"), I didn't know there was a UK one.
Obviously it could've been re-sealed to add to the price but as far as I could tell it was in mint condition.

Up until about a year ago you could still buy the 1992 copy of F&L&A in HMV and the like, I think it's been deleted now due to the Rhino reissue but there's probably still a few lurking around (you can still buy the jewelcase versions of Floodland and Vision Thing - none of them are sealed and range from £10-£15 - but I doubt whether they're still being pressed, shops are just selling the last of their stock), I'll check next time I'm in Oxford Street (it's definitely not in my two local HMVs).

I bought my copy of the 1992 release (digitally remastered) back in 2004, ah my first Sisters buy ;D
It's also the German release, again I didn't know there was a UK version.

I know it's been asked (by me) many times but just to finally clarify. Is the 1988 CD simply a CD version of the Japanese vinyl, therefore a CD version of all the Japanese mixes, and the 1992 release a remaster of the 1988 CD?
EDIT - Just checked this site, looks like the answer is 'yes'.

That site also says that there was a "remastered" version released (240 616-2) in Germany (not the 1988 or 1992 CD). According to Discogs it was released in 1986 (click) :urff:
Surely that's wrong?

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. And yeah, you're so right. It's so confusing, I could scream. But I looked and searched a lot, so let's see if I can get everything together and be of at least some help. My guess is that things looked like this:

There was a Germany 1988 CD for the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Denmark etc. Also for France since their different, french catalog number is written on the back cover. To answer your question: No, afaik there is no "UK 1988 CD" in a sense of an actual UK pressing. The "UK 1988 CD" is the Germany 1988 CD. The Germany 1988 CD[/i] is different from the Germany 1985 vinyl audio wise.

Later, in 1992, a Germany 1992 CD has been released. Again made in Germany. Again made there for the wider european region mentioned earlier. It says "Digitally remastered in 1992" on the top-right corner of the back cover. The Germany 1992 CD is different from the Germany 1985 vinyl as well as the Germany 1988 CD audio wise.

To sum it up, these two European pre-Rhino CDs exist and you need them both, because they have different audio:

THE SISTERS OF MERCY -- FIRST AND LAST AND ALWAYS
Merciful Release/eastwest/WEA RECORDS LTD. 0-22924-06162-2
Germany, 1988
(ASIN: ?)

THE SISTERS OF MERCY -- FIRST AND LAST AND ALWAYS (Digitally remastered in 1992)
Merciful Release/eastwest/WEA RECORDS LTD. 0-90317-73792-8
Germany, June 22, 1992
(ASIN: B000026HC2)

And the following is the Rhino CD, the EU 2006 CD. It is different from the Germany 1988 CD as well as the Germany 1992 CD and the same as the Germany 1985 vinyl audio wise:

THE SISTERS OF MERCY -- FIRST AND LAST AND ALWAYS
Merciful Release/RHINO UK/WARNER MUSIC UK LTD. 50-51011-75792-1
EU, October 30, 2006
(ASIN: B000IOMV1Y)

And this is the USA 1988 CD, which again is not 100% the same audio as any of the three European CDs:

THE SISTERS OF MERCY -- FIRST AND LAST AND ALWAYS
Elektra 0-75596-04052-5
USA, March 22, 1988
(ASIN: B000002H2J)
