Mac vs PC - The Last Word

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Oh, I know. There's a part of me that still wants to do that, and I do occasionally find myself thinking about Linux. But--no joke, I swear!--one of the nice things about abandoning Windows for the Mac is that I actually have more time to work on the things I need to work on, because I'm not constantly futzing around beneath the hood. It wasn't until I bought my MBP and then switched my wife to a Macbook that I realized how much time I spent fixing her computer and my computers. It's nice not having to do that anymore.

Seriously though, with Linux Mint, I've not needed to do any tinkering under the hood. Not even to get flash video or wifi working. Even Kerry's 12-year-old printer worked "out of the box".

I've ended up playing with Gentoo just so's I have something I can tinker with too.

And yes, Mac is far better than Windows on that score.

(I've since heard that Apple used to receive hundreds of calls on this every day....)

I think MacOS is quite OK and with a little cheating you can install it on common PC hardware (mac computers are basicly common pc's as well - just overpriced IMHO). I prefer to arrange my computer/hardware on my own btw. - never bought a complete computer in my life (except my PDA).

My problem is just that I don't have any problems with my windows machine so there's no reason for me to literally "touch a running system". I don't even feel the need to upgrade to vista or windows 7 because XP is still doing it and there's plenty free tools out the to customize some geeky features (like rocketdock).

No, I've never had that problem of Myspace grinding to a halt.
The real answer to your question is I don't know! Seemed like a good idea at the time but now considering closing that account actually.
