I've recently acquired a gig claiming to be Koln '85 but might not be on account of it's good quality. I've searched the web for the usual suspects and it's marked as rare on most lists <start rare trader rant here if desired> The tape starts with what I assume to be the taper talking to a friend, theres a loud german conducting his own singalong in KOHD and a few others. The quality of recording for this gig is generally listed as poor but this sounds pretty good, its on a high bias tape as well so the its quite high in the food chain tape gen wise - so the question is : does anybody else have this one ?
Also, extra points will be given for any info on if theres been an LP source for this gig

This might be a false alarm, but yor description fits well on a recording of Bonn 12.5.85. The german shouts things like "everybody now!" and sings very badly. Other than him the recording is quite good.

thanks dei - I seem to recall actually getting a copy of Bonn from the
taper I'll check against that one if I can find it, hopefully mystery solved
"everybody now!" sounds familiar.

Listening to my copy of Koln 19.4.85 for any identifying features. At the start a German says something like "All right", then another sentence or 2 in German. Not a great deal of talking though. Quality isn't great, vocals distant, overall murky sound. (I wouldn't call this gig rare either, but then everyone makes their own rules. Sometimes a gig marked as rare just means that particular trader might have taken a long time to get it, so in his eyes it's rare when it probably isn't really.)wayne wrote:I've searched the web for the usual suspects and it's marked as rare on most lists <start rare trader rant here if desired> The tape starts with what I assume to be the taper talking to a friend, theres a loud german conducting his own singalong in KOHD and a few others.
Just before Marian, several shouts of "Marian" and "Marianna".
After Marian Eldo says "Read it off the card whatever you do."
Erm, that's enough to identify it if it's the same gig, I'm turning the tape off now as it's horrible quality.
köln made its rounds in quite good quality recently (no distortion, full and well balanced frequency range) - kohd starts with a 'nice' rendition of "we will rock you" - lasting until guitar starts - also floorshow is cut in the middle.

Agreed Dan. Unless we both have bogus versions, that's what mine does.Dan wrote:

Wayne, check for that one, if it has that, it's most likely kosher
watch for the "we will rock you" and "hey hey" intro bits. a few of the gigs on that tour have those identifiers
AFAIK Floorshow isn't cut on my version
Goths have feelings too
this one seems to be the same
first 30 secs - some guy repeatedly going "ok ok" over the FALAA intro
13mins "read it off the card"
17:50 - repeated shouts for emma & walk over some guitar tuning
37mins theres a girl talking very close to the mic before RAAHP
somebody in the crowd shouts floorshow directly before it, its not cut
at the beginning either - the tape flip is straight after, however.
somebody shouts "in her party dress as the intro for alice begins"
KOHD has the annoying singer in it - mainly singing the first line of the chorus only - the "everybody now" occurs 16mins in after the tape flip,
with ad-libbed "come-on" and "whew's" (this guy was a rock star in waiting)
so it seems to be the same as Dan and PIB's versions (and also matches to Dei's Bonn description on KOHD)
"as you're probably aware we can't hear you" comes just before Train.
Tape ends with our man shouting for body electric.
Didn't spot any "we will rock you" refrains on this tape either.

Wayne: i checked few of those identifiers with Bonn, and they all are there. Though, before 'Train' it's more like "you're too far away we can't hear you". And i believe the guy shouting "in her party dress" during Alice intro is the drunken bastard, too

There's also a noticeable edit just after Marian.
So, as they're both the same, does anyone have a clue which is the correct date for the recording, Koln 19.4.85 or Bonn 12.5.85?
The easiest way to check if they're the same is to listen out for the line Eldo speaks after Marian - "Read it off the card whatever you do."
Anyone have these 2 gigs that are different?

My version that's supposedly from Köln -85 matches what PiB said about "we will rock you"...there's no "read it off the card" after Marian, but before Marian someone is shouting for Temple of Love. And the quality isn't bad, rather average.

That "read it off the card" after Marian is on the (supposed) Bonn-recording, without "we will rock you" on KOHD. PiB's message can be interpreted being a bit unclear at least
Oh and also, Floorshow is cut on my Köln-version, but not on Bonn.

Dont know if this helps or not but the version i have , supposingly Koln , Has the "we will rock yous" , "Floorshow" is cut , 2 girls in the vicinity of the taper shout for "Temple of love" before tracks 3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9.
However Nothing is said after "Marian" , or before "Train"

Ahh, so i have the dates the wrong way. For f**k's sake! This is the kind of thing that makes me thinking of quitting trading sometimes.
Thanks, PiB, for clearing it up. Of course, you might have them the wrong way, too

My Bonn is the SAME as the Koln tape
My copy is marked 1st gen so I'm more tempted to believe its Bonn - it looked an even spread here before that. The sound on mine is very clear.
I wander if the crap copies people have been commenting on have been damaged on purpose to nominally create new gigs. That goes off in a few trading circles I've been in, Gang Of Four being one of them - I know not why.
