So it's Monday morning, you've braved the small snowstorm to get to work and are doing your job - inbetween visiting HL - while conversing with your colleagues, when your mobile starts ringing. Nothing out of the ordinary, our manager called just five minutes earlier. It was not a number I knew, so I was being all professional and courteous. Turns out a journalist (f) from the newspaper (of sorts) Het Laatste Nieuws rang me to ask me a few questions, "seeing as the band is selected to play 'Pukkelpop'" (Pukkelpop being the largest 'alternative' festival in this country; which was the blueprint for Lollapalooza, so the story goes). If the hand of God had touched down in a place near me (note the NIN reference) it wouldn't have knocked me sideways as much as hearing that. Surely it couldn't be! Ok, we talked about getting people to vote us on the festival bill, but being in this soon? I mean, our guitar player had already had some luck in convincing his circle of friends to vote for us, but surely it would take much more than a mere 100 friends, family and mates to get us on the bill!
Anyway, the journo asked me some questions (one could hardly call it an interview), the typical ones (how did you start out, how many of you are there, etc...). Still baffled over what I just heard, I forgot to ask where she got that news from, although she did mention she had it from a website. She asked if we were available to have a band pic taken ('Sure!') and told me she'd get back to me to arrange that.
So now I'm shaking in my shoes : Pukkelpop? Really? I'm all dazed. Surely this is a joke. I call our guitar player anyway and tell him the 'news', which he also finds hard to believe. So I tell him I'll keep him posted.
About half an hour later, the journo chick calls back requesting more info, so I oblige. Then she asks if we can do a photo shoot today. I tell her I'll have to check with the others and in one breath ask her where she got the info. Then it is revealed a regional news site picked up on the stunt we're trying to pull by getting people to vote for us to play at Pukkelpop. She had merely picked up on it, felt it was interesting from a regional perspective and thus called me (how is it journos have access to people's private mobile numbers anyway?) for an interview (probably a byline) and a photoshoot. Well, I don't mind that, but it was one hell of a scare!
The moral of this story is something I was planning on asking you people already : to vote for us, Ahrayeph, on the Pukkelpop site so we can break into their billing. It is a three day festival, after all, with several stages beside the main stage. There is an English version of the page available, so there's no need to translate anything. All you have to do is to vote for us in the No.1 spot and add four other bands. While you're doing this, MAKE SURE to vote for FGG in second place,or if you like them over us, put them in first and us second. And while you're doing that for us (we'd be eternally grateful!! ) why not add the Girls, the Neph and Bauhaus or other "we're no goth band" bands in any order you like? That way, perhaps we can convince the Pukkelpop organisation to dedicate one stage to the Dark Arts. And do ask your friends and family to vote for us as well, because the more votes we get, the more chance we - Ahrayeph and FGG - have to play there! The Pukkelpop organisation has shown in the past to be open to this kind of thing, so it would be great if you people could help us out!

It would be, Carpy, IF we make it there. We certainly need everyone's help to do so. A big to those who already voted! And yes, you should be voting for Ahráyeph as well as FGG (support the IZmeister and RealSam!!). Ye ken it makes sense!

Done. Bloody hell Raf, fingers well and truly crossed.
Shame it's the same weekend as Lowlands, maybe you could do a mini festival-tour.

There is increasing evidence to suggest that Chris may have been being sarcastic.

Unfortunately, no. And the FGG shirt Sam generously gave me was a couple of sizes too small...christophe wrote:radiojamaica wrote:Will you be wearing sunglasses (after dark)?
