Kenny Giles - what is real and what is not.

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Right. I went through the archives and there are some conflicting reports about what is real and what isn't from these. I got this from Halfjob and am going to send one out to Andy - but I prefer to know what I'm actually sending him. Anybody any idea where the live tracks are from?:

can't say for sure but i think a few of thoe "demo" versions are just eq-d versions of the official releases. been a while since i've listened to it but IIRC tracks 5, 6 & 8 were not really "demos".

No all tracks are in dept real, no s...t at all
the only thing that happened is the the original owner of the tape edited all songs for few second for kept the original rare.
just 2 of the CNT songs are the released version but not comes from vinyl but from reel. Original tape of K.G was compiled by Eldo and got a handwritten cover by himself of mark : Released 7 version - Reverberate version (different mix) - Instrumental.

the bootleger done a mix of :

Floorshow Ep
K.G tapes
Anaconda (rough mix)
3 tracks Basement demos (Andy cousin source)
Good thing (demo) J.AShton furs demo

this the true history

LOL!

Tracks 14,15,16, have been around years. Released on various boots as "Floorshow EP", this was originally part of a Sisters demo tape.

Tracks 3, 9 and 4 (in that order) belong together. I've had those same 3 tracks on tape for a number of years. My copy was labelled as "Body Electric Demos Feb'82". Alice ends abruptly cos someone accidentally recorded over the end, which isn't as evident on the cd cos someone's trimmed the end by a fraction of a second.

All the tracks on the Kenny Giles cd are badly encoded. Either the person who made the cd was crap at encoding audio, or it was done deliberately by some complete git to "keep it rare". Most likely a bit of both.

The best tracks for me are track 1 & 13. It's just a shame track 1 jumps a couple of times in a very strange way. I've been able to fix most of the other clicks and pops on the cd but the jumps in track 1 are unfixable.

Were they recorded by Giles as well, or was that the basement of Andrew's (cousin?) house?

Also, what venue in Leeds (16.02.81) is the Good Times recording from.

What is the source of the Phantom (unfaded edit)?

Also, anybody any ideas about the tracklisting and the way it is? Should I change it?

Thanks, sorry for the questions.

No, it's from a demo tape, y'know, one that bands send out to record companies & music papers when they're just starting out, maybe even sell at gigs.

No idea.

It's not from Leeds, it's York, Alcuin College (York University), their first ever gig. Supporting Thompson Twins. 16.2.81. Recording given to someone by Andrew.
Also, anybody any ideas about the tracklisting and the way it is? Should I change it?
Yes, the track order is a mess. I'll get back to you on that one.

I messed around with the track order. Rearranging it in approx chronological order and grouping the tracks together I arrived at this. It won't be 100% correct but it's a good guess I reckon.

(Keeping the original track numbers to avoid confusion.)

13 Good Things (York, Alcuin College, 1st gig, 16.02.81)

May'81, Sisters Demo Tape (aka Floorshow EP)
14 Floorshow (Demo)
15 Lights (Demo)
16 Teachers/Adrenochrome (Demo)

Basement Demos, 1981
1 Untitled demo (Body Electric diff lyrics)

Demo, late 1981
2 Good things (1st Demo)

Kenny Giles Studio, Bridlington, Feb'82
5 Adrenochrome (CNT Demo)
6 Body Electric (CNT Demo)
10 Adrenochrome (CNT Reverb Demo)
11 Body electric (instrumental)
12 Adrenochrome (instrumental)

(?)Kenny Giles Studio, Bridlington, Summer'82 (Seemed a more likely date, as this looks like a later session than the other one.)
3 1969 (Basement Demo)
9 Good Things (Unreleased Basement Demo)
4 Alice (psychedelic Intro. Demo)

7 Anaconda (Demo)
8 Phantom (Unfaded edit)

I'm not sure where the last 2 belong so I just bunged them on the end!

Thanks Dan! Think I'll set it up that way - unless people would find it to confusing concerning the weed.

Anyone else think that

"Demo, late 1981
2 Good things (1st Demo) "

Is actually a 1982 portastudio demo?

Who's Kenny Giles? Did he play for Leeds United?

pardon my ignorance, sir, in case you are attempting to breed in some quality humour, but his name and "occupation" is mentioned/explained even in the SGWBM booklet, which im pretty sure you own.
